Pantr is an app for managing shopping lists and recipes. The app does not collect personal data for advertising or analytics purposes and does not share any data with advertisers. The following explains what data is processed when you use the app and how it is handled.
All content you enter — recipes, ingredients, shopping lists, settings — is stored locally on your device. If you are signed in to an Apple ID on your device, the app automatically synchronises this data with your iCloud account — no configuration required (see 3.2). Without an iCloud account, all data remains exclusively on your device.
If you are signed in to an Apple ID on your device, recipes and shopping lists are synchronised across your Apple devices via CloudKit (Apple Inc.) and — if you use the sharing feature — shared with people you choose. Data is stored in your personal iCloud container and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. Pantr has no access to this data outside of your device.
Synchronisation via iCloud happens automatically when you are signed in to an Apple ID on your device. It can be disabled in iOS system settings under iCloud. Without an iCloud account, the app works entirely locally.
The AI-powered features of the app (recipe import from URLs or photos, AI recipe generation) require your own OpenAI API key, which you can optionally enter in the app's settings. This key is stored exclusively in your device's Keychain and is never transmitted to any third party.
When you use one of these features, the relevant content (e.g. the text of a web page or a recipe photo) is sent to the OpenAI API. Processing by OpenAI is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. No data is sent to OpenAI unless you have entered an API key.
When you use the feature to import a recipe from a photo, the app accesses your camera or photo library. This is done solely to extract recipe information. Photos are not stored permanently and are not shared with third parties — except with the OpenAI API if you have entered an API key (see 3.3).
When you use the sharing feature, push notifications may be sent via Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) to notify shared participants about changes to the shopping list. No personal content is transmitted via APNs; Apple only receives a technical device signal.
General app settings (e.g. default serving size, category order) are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults. This data does not leave your device.
The processing of the data described above is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract / provision of app functionality) and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent), where you activate optional features such as the OpenAI import.
Your data is not shared with third parties, except for:
Data on your device is retained for as long as the app is installed. You can delete all data at any time within the app or by uninstalling it. iCloud data can additionally be deleted via your device's iCloud settings.
